Technical FAQ: Pallet Flow Rack Systems

Answering the primary engineering, safety, and logistical questions of warehouse managers.

For most standard operations, we design gravity flow lanes with a pitch ratio of 3% to 4% (approximately 3/8" to 1/2" of drop per linear foot). This slope ensures that pallets slide smoothly without accumulating excessive velocity. If you are using varied pallet materials—such as plastic, wood, or metal—our design team will run structural tests using your actual pallets to calibrate the correct incline angle.

Safety brake rollers (speed controllers) use centrifugal force inside the roller casing. When a pallet accelerates down the lane, the rotation triggers internal brake pads that slow the roller's movement. We position these speed controllers at regular intervals along each lane, preventing dynamic runaways and protecting your staff, products, and racking frames.

Pallet flow racks work best with high-quality pallets that have flat, unbroken bottom runners. Cracked boards, loose nails, or structural deflection can catch on the rollers and cause lane hang-ups. For operations using varied pallet types, we suggest split-roller setups or full-width steel rollers. We can also add heavy-duty guide channels to help direct inconsistent pallets safely down the lane.

Every frame assembly is built using high-strength Q235B or Q355B steel, welded by certified robotic systems. We incorporate thick upright profiles, rigid cross-bracing, and impact-resistant column guards at low-clearance areas. We also conduct structural finite element analysis (FEA) to confirm that the static and dynamic load capacity matches your regional safety guidelines (such as RMI, FEM, or AS4084).
